International Journal of Language and Artificial Intelligence (IJLAI) is a peer‑reviewed, international, open‑access journal dedicated to advancing research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and language education. The journal provides a scholarly platform for examining how AI‑driven technologies are reshaping language teaching, learning, assessment, and educational policy across diverse linguistic, cultural, and instructional contexts.

IJLAI is owned and published by the Alzu'bi Center for Studies and Research, and it is committed to fostering high‑quality academic discourse that bridges theory, research, and practice. The journal publishes contributions in both Arabic and English, supporting multilingual scholarship and promoting wider accessibility within regional and global research communities.

The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, and practice‑oriented studies that investigate innovative and ethical applications of AI in naturalistic and instructed language learning environments. IJLAI seeks to promote interdisciplinary dialogue among linguists, language educators, educational technologists, AI researchers, and policymakers, with a strong emphasis on evidence‑based practices and the responsible integration of AI in education.

IJLAI is published twice a year, with regular issues released in February and August. To ensure timely dissemination of research, we publish all accepted papers online immediately after final acceptance, before assigning them to a specific issue.

1. General Requirements

1.1 Language Quality

Manuscripts must be written clearly and coherently, using appropriate academic language. Submissions should be understandable to an international scholarly audience.

1.2 Length of Paper

IJLAI does not impose strict word or page limits. However, authors are strongly encouraged to:

• Write concisely and clearly

• Avoid unnecessary repetition

• Ensure that the length is appropriate to the article type

2. Paper Template

• Mandatory template use: All manuscripts must use the official IJLAI template.

• The template ensures consistency in formatting and structure.

The Journal’s template can be downloaded from the journal website.

3. Word Processing Format

• Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) only.

4. Types of Submission

IJLAI publishes the following contributions: Full-length research articles, Review articles, Book reviews.

5. Organization of the Manuscript

Authors should follow the standard academic structure below. Variations are acceptable depending on article type, but all core elements must be present where applicable.

Concise and informative, accurately reflects the scope and content, Maximum length: 18 words; avoid abbreviations, symbols, and formulas

Author Information

Provide the following for each author:

a. Full name
b. Institutional affiliation (department, institution, city, country)
c. E-mail address of the corresponding author
d. ORCID iD (if available)

Abstract

Statement of the problem, research purpose, design/methodology, main findings, key conclusions, maximum length: 250 words, no undefined abbreviations or citations

Keywords

Provide 3-7 keywords, should support indexing and discoverability

Introduction

2. Retraction Policy

IJLAI follows Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines regarding retractions.

An article may be retracted if:

• There is clear evidence of plagiarism or data fabrication

• Ethical violations are discovered post-publication

• Serious errors invalidate the findings

• Undisclosed conflicts of interest influence the work

Retraction Procedure:

• A retraction notice explaining the reason will be published.

• The original article will remain accessible but clearly marked as retracted.

3. Informed Consent Policy

Research involving human participants, including learners, teachers, or institutions, must adhere to ethical research standards.

• Authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from participants.

• Studies involving minors must include consent from parents or guardians.

• Personal data must be anonymized to protect privacy.

A statement confirming informed consent must be included in the manuscript.

4. Conflict of Interest and Competing Interests

IJLAI requires transparency regarding any potential conflicts of interest.

• Authors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence their research.

• Reviewers and editors must declare conflicts and recuse themselves if necessary.

If no conflict exists, authors should state: “The authors declare no competing interests.”

• Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a written appeal with justification.

Complaints

Stages of the Peer Review and Publication Process

1. Initial Submission

   • Manuscripts are submitted through the journal’s online system.

   • Authors must ensure compliance with journal scope, formatting guidelines, and ethical requirements.

2. Editorial Screening

   • The Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor evaluates the manuscript for:

     • Relevance to the journal’s scope

     • Originality and academic quality

     • Ethical compliance

     • Language clarity and basic methodological soundness

   • Manuscripts may be desk-rejected at this stage.

3. Plagiarism Check

   • All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software.

   • Manuscripts with unacceptable similarity levels are rejected or returned for clarification.

4. Peer Review

   • Suitable manuscripts are sent to at least two anonymous reviewers.

   • Reviewers evaluate:

     • Theoretical framework

     • Methodology and analysis

     • Originality and contribution

     • Clarity and organization

     • Ethical considerations

5. Editorial Decision

   • Based on reviewers’ reports, the editor issues one of the following decisions:

     • Accept

     • Minor revisions

     • Major revisions

     • Reject

6. Revision Stage

   • Authors submit a revised manuscript with a detailed response to reviewers’ comments.

   • Revised submissions may be re-reviewed if necessary.

7. Final Acceptance

   • The editor confirms that revisions meet scholarly and ethical standards.

8. Copyediting and Production

   • Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting, formatting, and proofreading.

9. Continuous Publication

   • Articles are published online immediately after finalization and assigned to the current issue (February or August). 

10. Reviewer Responsibilities

Peer reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality, credibility, and integrity of IJLAI. Reviewers are expected to conduct their evaluations professionally, objectively, and ethically.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

• Provide Objective and Constructive Feedback
  Evaluate manuscripts fairly, based solely on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

• Maintain Confidentiality
  Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and not disclose or discuss their content with others without editorial permission.

• Declare Conflicts of Interest
  Inform the editor promptly if any personal, professional, or financial conflict of interest exists and decline the review if necessary.

• Avoid Misuse of Manuscript Content
  Not use unpublished data, ideas, or interpretations from the manuscript for personal research or advantage.

• Identify Ethical Concerns
  Alert editors to suspected plagiarism, redundant publication, ethical issues, or significant errors in the manuscript.

• Adhere to Review Timelines
  Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe or inform the editor promptly if delays are unavoidable.

• Provide Clear Recommendations
  Offer well-justified recommendations regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection, supported by detailed comments.
